This website is part of a collaborative research project documenting ‘keywords’ of place-based community economic practices in Monsoon Asia. These practices have long enabled livelihoods in the region and have survived the rise of a cash economy – albeit in modern form.
In the modern development imaginary these practices have been positioned as ‘traditional’, ‘rural’ and largely superseded. But if we read against the grain of modernization, a largely hidden geography of community economic practices emerges. This website maps this alternative mapping of the region.
For a fuller description of the project see this article in Asia Pacific Viewpoint.
